YOGA & MEDITATION

‘All that is important is this one moment in movement.’
Martha Graham

Yoga’s so trendy these days. Anyone CAN do it, but most don’t even try it. The postures may seem complicated, but if you give it a try, you’ll quickly realize that it doesn’t take much to feel the benefits. And like other forms of fitness practiced mindfully, all it takes is a few cat and cow stretches or a forward bend to release a tight back and mental anxiety. Yoga gives you the gift of having a closer relationship with your body and allows you to feel nuances so that when tension starts to build, you notice. Your body does talk to you, if you’ll only listen.

Following a class, students frequently say they feel energized, yet relaxed. YES! That’s our optimal state of well-being but we’ve been disconnected in many ways, so we feel tired and stressed instead. You may or may not reach Nirvana, but a regular practice will help you step out of the daily grind, make you a calmer person, and teach you how to be present in your life.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced student, yoga helps you focus on your inner self for a more fit and peaceful you. Move slowly, breathe deeply, and honor your body’s strengths and limitations.

Meditation, too, is part of mindful living. Taking time to pause, be still, and listen within is one of the most powerful health practices available. Benefits abound on all levels – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Meditation can help you gain clarity and peace of mind, creating space for perspective. It can help creativity and intuition expand, and reduce anxiety.

Knowing that being still is a challenge for many, Lisa has designed a class that begins with gentle yoga stretches to help loosen the body to prepare for sitting. Integrating conscious breathing, students relax, become grounded, and connect mind and body. Each session will vary slightly as other mindful practices are taught to enhance this connection, but all classes will emphasize sitting meditation. Sitting in lotus is not required! The goal is to be comfortable whether sitting on the floor, against a wall, or in a chair.
